Here is the solution/answer to the brain teaser question of this week:
9 x 1 / 3 + 4 - 1 / 7 = ?
I am going to put parenthesis to make it easier to understand.
(9 x 1) / 3 + 4 - (1 x 7) = ?
Remember order of operations when you do this.
First multiply:
9 / 3 + 4 - 7 = ?
Then divide:
3 + 4 - 7 =?
Finally add and subtract left to right:
7 - 7 = 0
The answer is zero!
I hope you enjoy the brain teaser, the next one is coming Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

Order of Operations:
How do you do a question like this?
[(9-4)x(5+2)+5-17].
I cant do a problem like this unless I had a set of directions. The solution is called "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally!" This phrase is an easier way of remembering:
[(9-4)x(5+2)+5-17].
I cant do a problem like this unless I had a set of directions. The solution is called "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally!" This phrase is an easier way of remembering:
P- simplify inside the parenthesis
E- evaluate the exponents
MD- multiply ans divide, left to right
AS- add and subtract, left to right
It is vital that you memorize that. You will need it in Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry.
Here is an example:
3(5) + 4 - 1 First multiply 3(5)
15 + 4 - 1 Add and subtract from left to right
19 - 1
18

An algebraic learning blog
This Blog is created to help students who have trouble figuring out math and making it interesting. I want to make this blog interactive. So, Please, Post your questions and I will post the solution as fast as I can. Besides that, I will post some interesting brain teaser questions in an effort to make math interesting for this community.
Stay tuned!
